Crown Promenade Perth & Atrium Buffet

Our initial reaction was really positive.

The lobby was clean, inviting and had that unmistakable hotel feeling that I absolutely love.

We arrived quite late in the evening and, after a long day, we were both pretty tired. But there’s something about walking into a beautiful hotel lobby that immediately perks you up.

I always think the smell of a hotel lobby is a bit like meeting someone for the first time and noticing their perfume or cologne. Before they’ve even said anything, you’ve already formed an impression.

And Crown Promenade made a good first impression.

It felt polished without being overly pretentious, welcoming without trying too hard, and exactly what you want when you’re checking into a hotel for a little escape.

The room was clean, tidy and well presented, with all the usual features you’d expect from a good hotel room.

There was also a sitting area with a couch, which I really liked. It gave the room a little more space and made it feel like somewhere you could actually spend some time rather than simply somewhere to sleep.

It would be a great little spot to sit and read a book, have a drink, watch some television or, let’s be honest, have a cheeky nap. 😂

The bed itself was probably a little too soft for my personal taste. I know plenty of people absolutely love a soft hotel bed, but I’m someone who likes a little more support underneath me.

And then there was the view.

Now, I’m going to be brutally honest here.

Our stunning view was… the car park. 😂

But you know what? I’m not going to hold that against the hotel.

You’re not really staying at Crown Promenade to spend your holiday staring out the window. The important thing is that the room was comfortable, clean and functional, and it delivered what we expected from the price point.

Overall, our experience was very good.

I think Crown Promenade works particularly well as a nice little staycation. It gives you the feeling of getting away without actually having to go anywhere.

The pool and gym facilities are a great reprieve from being in the room, and they give you another reason to get out and enjoy the hotel rather than simply checking in and spending the night inside.

I imagine the pool would become particularly popular during the warmer months, especially with families, so if you’re looking for a quiet, secluded pool experience, this probably isn’t necessarily that.

But if you’re looking for somewhere to relax, cool off and let the kids burn off some energy, it definitely ticks the box.

We also ordered room service, because obviously a hotel stay isn’t complete without ordering something to the room.

We went for a pizza and a Wagyu beef burger, and both were beautiful.

The only little criticism would be the chips, which had become a little soggy by the time they arrived.

But honestly, I’ll take slightly soggy room-service chips over having to leave the room and find food at the end of a long day any time. 😂

The following morning, we made our way down to Atrium Buffet for breakfast — and as far as hotel buffets go, it was beautiful.

There is a lot of food.

And I mean… a LOT. 😂

There’s plenty of choice, everything is presented beautifully and there’s something for just about every kind of breakfast person.

Whether you’re after something sweet, something savoury, a traditional cooked breakfast or you simply want to wander around and sample a bit of everything, Atrium certainly gives you options.

But this is where we have to add a little bit of a His & Hers disclaimer.

Both Paula and I have had gastric sleeve surgery, so a buffet isn’t necessarily the best value for money for us personally.

The whole appeal of a buffet is, obviously, that you can eat as much as you want and try a huge variety of things.

And while that sounds fantastic in theory, when you physically can’t eat very much, you can end up paying for a whole lot more food than you’re actually capable of enjoying.

So if you’re going to Atrium, go hungry! 😂

Seriously.

This is one of those places where you want to arrive ready to eat, because there is an enormous amount of food available and you’ll want to make the most of it.

For us, the food itself was great. The issue wasn’t quality, it was simply that our stomachs weren’t particularly interested in getting involved in the buffet experience to the extent our eyes were. 😂

And honestly, that’s part of the fun of doing these reviews.

Something can be excellent and still not necessarily be the best value for everyone.

If you’re someone who loves a big breakfast, enjoys variety and can really make the most of a buffet, you’ll probably have a fantastic time.

For Paula and me, it was more a case of looking at all that beautiful food and thinking:

“Well… that’s ambitious.” 😂

This is where hotel reviews can become a little tricky because prices at Crown can change significantly depending on the day, events happening at the complex and the time of year.

At the moment, rooms can average around $337 per night, although cheaper deals can certainly be found. Crown is currently advertising offers from around $279 per night, and Crown Rewards members can also access personalised discounts and offers.

So our advice here is simple:

Don’t necessarily pay the first price you see.

Have a look around, check Crown’s current offers and see what Crown Rewards is offering before you hand over your money.

At the right price, we think Crown Promenade represents pretty good value for a short Perth getaway, particularly if you’re going to take advantage of everything around you.

And if you’re planning on adding breakfast at Atrium to your stay, factor that into the overall cost and think about whether a buffet actually works for you.

For big breakfast eaters? Absolutely.

For people like us who can only manage smaller portions? Maybe not quite such a bargain.

Absolutely.

Would I call Crown Promenade the perfect staycation?

Probably not.

But I think it is a very good family-friendly getaway, particularly if you want somewhere that gives you plenty to do without having to get back in the car.

You’re close to some great bars and restaurants, there’s live entertainment just a short walk away, and during the warmer months the pool becomes another great option for families wanting to relax and spend some time together.

And that’s probably what I like most about Crown Promenade.

It doesn’t necessarily try to be the most luxurious or intimate hotel experience in Perth. Instead, it gives you a convenient little escape where there is plenty happening around you.

For couples, families or anyone wanting to have a night away without actually going away, Crown Promenade is definitely somewhere we would recommend.
